Duke head coach Jon Scheyer agreed to a new six-year contract that will keep him in Durham through the 2028-29 season, vice president and director of athletics Nina King announced Saturday.

"Jon Scheyer has seamlessly continued the championship culture in Duke Basketball with his relentless energy, passion, and attention to detail," King said in a statement. "He and his staff hold their team to the highest standard. The entire Duke community and our fans should be proud of what these young men have accomplished on and off the court."

Scheyer took over for Mike Krzyzewski after the Blue Devils legend retired in 2022. He originally signed a five-year deal with Duke. The 36-year-old was promoted to the big job after serving as associate head coach from 2018-22 and assistant coach from 2014-18.

In his first season with Duke, he led the Blue Devils to a 27-9 record and an ACC championship. The team lost to Tennessee in the second round of March Madness.

Scheyer played at Duke as well - he was named a consensus second-team All-American in 2010 and helped the Blue Devils win an NCAA championship the same year.

The program is hosting the No. 1 player in the 2024 class, Cooper Flagg, on an official visit this weekend. Duke has had back-to-back top national recruiting classes with Scheyer at the helm - helping contribute to a No. 2 ranking in the preseason AP Top 25 poll.
