Gonzaga men's basketball head coach Mark Few was charged for driving under the influence in Idaho on Monday, according to a police report obtained by the Spokesman-Review's Greg Mason and Nico Portuondo.
The citation occurred north of Coeur d'Alene, a city about 30 miles east of Gonzaga's home in Spokane, Washington.
After receiving a report of erratic driving, officers pulled over Few's Cadillac Escalade around 8 p.m.
The longtime Bulldogs head coach refused to undergo a field sobriety test but blew 0.12 and 0.119 in a pair of breathalyzer tests - well above the legal blood alcohol concentration limit of 0.08.
"I believe as a leader and role model, I am expected to set only the best example," Few said in a statement, according to KREM 2 News' Brenna Greene. "The decisions I made yesterday do not exemplify this standard, and for that, I sincerely apologize to you all.
"I recognize that operating a motor vehicle after consuming any amount of alcohol exhibits poor judgment."
Few, 58, has coached Gonzaga since 1999, making the program a perennial NCAA Tournament entrant. The team finished as the runner-up to Baylor in this past spring's national championship game.
"Regardless of the outcome of the pending investigation, I will never allow such a lapse in judgment to occur again," he said. "Please know that I am committed to learning from these mistakes and will work to earn your trust back in me."
The Bulldogs' athletic program has yet to comment on the matter.
