Celtics add former NBA guard Stoudamire to Udoka's staff

The Boston Celtics hired former NBA point guard and Pacific head coach Damon Stoudamire as an assistant on new head coach Ime Udoka's staff, the Tigers confirmed Wednesday.

Stoudamire had served as head coach at Pacific in the West Coast Conference since 2016.

The 47-year-old is close with Udoka, as the two grew up together in Portland, Stadium's Jeff Goodman notes.

Stoudamire went 71-77 over five seasons at Pacific. His best campaign came in 2019-20 when the program went 23-10 overall and tied for third in the conference, earning him the WCC's Coach of the Year award.

He will be succeeded by associate head coach Leonard Perry.

Stoudamire, the 1996 NBA Rookie of the Year, played 13 seasons in the Association.

He was selected seventh overall by the Toronto Raptors in 1995 as the first draft pick in the franchise's history. Toronto traded him in 1998 to the Portland Trail Blazers, with whom he played seven-and-a-half seasons.

Stoudamire signed with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2005, spending two-and-a-half seasons with them before rounding out his career with a 31-game stint with the San Antonio Spurs.
