Texas Tech freshman guard Nimari Burnett is leaving the school and plans to transfer, he told ESPN's Jeff Borzello.

Burnett was the Red Raiders' top 2020 recruit and the 22nd-ranked prospect on last year's ESPN 100.

The 6-foot-4 19-year-old is averaging 5.3 points and 1.4 steals in 17.7 minutes per game this season.

Texas Tech's backcourt became suddenly crowded with transfers Mac McClung and Jamarius Burton becoming immediately eligible to play this season after the NCAA granted them waivers.

The Red Raiders are off to a 9-3 start, including a 2-2 mark in Big 12 play.
