Florida junior Keyontae Johnson is now breathing on his own and speaking following his collapse during Saturday's game against Florida State, his parents said in a statement through the school.

"We feel so much love and support from everyone, and we're beyond grateful for the care and attention that Keyontae has received throughout these past several days," Nika and Marrecus Johnson said.

As the Gators were coming out of a timeout, witnesses said Johnson fell face-first onto the floor, according to The Associated Press. He was stretchered away from the game and rushed to Tallahassee Memorial for evaluation.

Johnson's grandfather, Larry DeJarnett, said Johnson had been placed in a medically induced coma, according to the AP. By Monday, Johnson was said to be "following simple commands."

"We are working closely with Keyontae's doctors and the (University Athletic Association) to provide information to everyone who cares so deeply about Keyontae and has been praying for him," his parents added.

The standout forward was named the SEC's Preseason Player of the Year for the second straight year prior to the 2020 campaign. Johnson entered Saturday's game averaged 19.7 points and six rebounds per contest.

Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 this summer, the Associated Press notes, though it's not clear whether his prior illness played a role in the incident.
