Howard big man Makur Maker - ranked as the No. 16 recruit in the 2020 class by ESPN - is out indefinitely with a groin injury.

“Quite honestly, he’s really banged up and we’re going to shut him down until he gets healthy because right now he’s just not,” coach Kenneth Blakeney said Saturday, according to The Washington Post's Tramel Raggs. “He’s not able to move and I don’t want him to be counterproductive right now.”

Maker sustained the initial injury during a preseason practice.

The 6-foot-11 freshman logged just 19 minutes in Friday's 85-71 loss to North Carolina's Queens University, a D-II program. In two appearances for the winless Bison this season, Maker has averaged 11.5 points, six rebounds, two assists, one block, and 4.5 turnovers in 24 minutes per game.

Maker is the cousin of free-agent big man Thon Maker, who's logged 255 games between the Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons since being selected 10th overall in 2016.
