Shareef O'Neal, the son of Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal, was granted a waiver following his transfer from UCLA and will be immediately eligible for the 2020-21 season with LSU, he announced Wednesday.

O'Neal announced he would transfer to his father's alma mater in February after two years at UCLA.

The 20-year-old was forced to redshirt during what would have been his freshman season with the Bruins due to a heart condition, which he underwent surgery for in December 2018. He returned for the 2019-20 campaign and averaged 2.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 13 games.

O'Neal's father Shaquille is considered one of the greatest players to pass through LSU's basketball program. He then embarked on a 19-year professional career and won four NBA titles. He played three seasons with the Tigers from 1989 to 1992, and O'Neal still owns the school's all-time blocks record with 412. He also ranks second in total rebounds with 1,217.
