Coach K: There won't be a regular season 'the way we've had it'

If it wasn't already clear that the NCAA's 2020-21 men's basketball season - set to tip off Nov. 25 - will be unprecedented, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski made it clear that the idea of a normal campaign is off the table.

"There is no 'regular season.' From the very start, this was looked at as a time where we have a pandemic and there's not going to be a regular season - the way we've had it," Krzyzewski said on a video conference call Wednesday, according to Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy.

"So, the NCAA got a starting date, and they have an ending date. Nothing against them, but that's the main thing they're concerned about. And then it really goes up to the conferences to figure it all out."

Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard had a more blunt appraisal of the scheduling for the upcoming season, calling the process "a total, total shitshow," according to Stadium's Jeff Goodman.

However, no matter how the season schedule unfolds, Krzyzewski maintained optimism that the NCAA Tournament will take place in some shape or form.

"We don't know a lot of things, but we know we're going to have March Madness, we know we're going to have a regular season. We just don't know much about both," he said, per DeCourcy. "It's a hell of a way to run a railroad."
