The University of Evansville has dismissed men's basketball head coach Walter McCarty, the school announced Tuesday.

McCarty, who was placed on administrative leave Dec. 26, 2019, is being investigated in relation to alleged sexual misconduct and violations of the school's policy.

Following the opening of the investigation, the university received additional reports of alleged misconduct committed by McCarty during his tenure at Evansville. The former coach was also issued warnings pertaining to "inappropriate off-court behavior" last season.

"There is no place at UE for any behavior by any University employee or student that jeopardizes the safety and security of others," the school wrote in its statement.

McCarty guided the Purple Aces to a 9-4 record before being placed on administrative leave. Since then, the team has gone 0-6 under interim head coach Bennie Seltzer.

The 45-year-old McCarty played 10 seasons in the NBA, predominantly as a member of the Boston Celtics.
