Marquette star Markus Howard made history during the Golden Eagles' 101-79 thrashing of USC on Friday.

The senior guard scored 51 points on 14-of-24 shooting - including nine triples - to become the first player in Big East history to drop 40-plus points in consecutive games. He's also the fourth player in major conference history to notch 40-plus points in consecutive days, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Howard posted 40 points in Thursday's win over Davidson in the opening round of the Orlando Invitational, bringing his total to a new tournament record of 91, according to Emily Giambalvo of The Washington Post.

The Arizona native is one of college basketball's most prolific scorers. Howard has produced three of the four 50-plus-point games in Big East history, and he's the only player over the last 20 seasons to post multiple 50-point contests, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

The second-team All-American finished with a Big East-record 53 points against Creighton in January.

Howard was averaging 25 points on 42.4% shooting entering Friday's game.

Marquette (5-1) will play No. 5 Maryland on Sunday in the championship game of the Orlando Invitational.
