Iowa's McCaffery gets 2-game ban after swearing at official
Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery received a two-game suspension following an expletive-laced tirade toward a game official Tuesday, the Hawkeyes announced Wednesday, according to Brian Hamilton of Big Ten Network.
After the Hawkeyes' 90-70 loss to Ohio State, McCaffery snapped at an official. According to several reporters, including The Blade's Kyle Rowland, he screamed: "You cheating motherf-----! You're a f------ disgrace!"
When asked to comment on his reaction postgame, McCaffery responded, "I can't talk about that," according to ESPN.
In the school's statement, athletic director Gary Barta said: "Coach McCaffery made unacceptable comments to a game official in the hallway headed to the locker room. Fran's comments do not represent the values of the University of Iowa, Hawkeye athletics, and our men's basketball program."
During the game, the coach and his son, guard Connor McCaffery, were assessed technical fouls just one minute apart late in the second half.
Iowa (21-7) is sixth in the Big Ten after dropping lost two of its last three contests. The Hawkeyes have three games remaining before the conference tournament begins.
