Duke hasn't discussed shutting down Zion after knee injury

After suffering a freak injury against North Carolina on Wednesday, Duke star Zion Williamson has yet to discuss the plan for the rest of the season.

Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski told reporters there's been no talk of putting an end to the forward's freshman campaign after being sidelined for Duke's 75-65 win in Syracuse on Saturday.

"We would never play a kid who's not ready," Krzyzewski said, according to ESPN's Myron Medcalf. "We would never play a youngster who didn't want to play. It's not about that. He wants to play. He loves being at Duke. He doesn't like being injured. It's an injury you can get over in a shorter period of time. There's just a protocol that we have to go through to make sure he's completely ready. We're not rushing anything, so that's why we said day-to-day because it's literally day-to-day."

Williamson suffered a knee sprain after his foot completely tore through his shoe within the first minute of Duke's 88-72 loss to their rival Tar Heels.

Numerous NBA players have voiced their concern on the potential risk the 18-year-old is taking by returning to action ahead of a multi-million dollar payday at the next level.

Williamson is averaging 21.6 points and 8.8 rebounds in 28.2 minutes per game.
