Jones suffered an acromioclavicular joint separation in Monday's loss to Syracuse. Afterward, the Blue Devils announced Jones would be out indefinitely. On Thursday, however, head coach Mike Krzyzewski put to rest any fears that Jones would miss extended time.
"I don't know if it's for this game or the next game, but it's not going to be long term, where it's a month or something," Krzyzewski told The Athletic's Dana O'Neil. "He's going to be back."
While Jones hasn't officially been ruled out for Saturday's game against Virginia, Krzyzewski doubts that he'll play. The coach said he advised Jones not to rush back into action.
"I told him, 'You do not have to come back for any one game. Do not feel that pressure,'" Krzyzewski said. "I don't want him to play where he can't play like Tre."
Jones missed Duke's preseason tour in Canada with a hip injury but was ready to go by the season opener. He's averaging 8.1 points and 5.7 assists per contest through 16 games.
