Report: Spurs' Hammon won't pursue Colorado State men's head coaching job

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Becky Hammon is sticking with the San Antonio Spurs.

The former WNBA star has withdrawn her candidacy for Colorado State's head coaching job and will remain an assistant coach on Gregg Popovich's staff, a program source told The Denver Post's Kyle Fredrickson.

Hammon, 41, was reportedly a top candidate to fill the vacancy left by Larry Eustachy, who resigned following investigations into his conduct and treatment of the players.

When Hammon was hired by the Spurs in 2014, she was the first female assistant coach in NBA history. Had she landed the Colorado State gig, she would've been the first female head coach of a Division I men's basketball program.

Hammon played at CSU from 1995-99 and finished her career as the all-time leading scorer. She went on to make six WNBA All-Star appearances and finished eighth on the all-time scoring list before retiring in 2014.

The Rams will focus on the remaining candidates, which may include recently-ousted Georgia head coach Mark Fox.
