Stephen F. Austin coach: Millennials don't watch college basketball

Despite leading for a large portion of its contest Thursday, No. 14 Stephen F. Austin lost to No. 3 Texas Tech by 10 in a hard-fought game.

After briefly discussing the Lumberjacks' seeding in his postgame press conference, head coach Kyle Keller took the opportunity to raise his concerns about the lack of interest his players, and millennials in general, have in watching the sport.

"They don't even watch college basketball," Keller said, according to ASAP Sports. "A lot of our guys didn't even know who those cats (Texas Tech players) were because they don't watch the game. They're on their phone and doing that kind of stuff."

Keller wasn't done there.

"I hate to say it, but as much as you or I or anybody in here watches the games, they don't. Or the NBA," Keller said. "They might watch the Slam Dunk Contest in February on TNT or whatever, but that's about the extent of it."

While it might be beneficial for players to watch other games, the chance of Stephen F. Austin playing Texas Tech this season was very small and required an NCAA tournament committee scheduling the game for it to happen. Players are also inundated with full course loads and a full practice schedule. Watching college basketball on their own time might not be high on the priority list of 18-22-year-olds.
