Less than 24 hours after being interviewed by school officials, former Ohio State head coach Thad Matta has been offered the top coaching gig at Georgia, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Reports have been swirling around a potential deal between Matta and the Bulldogs since Georgia handed former head coach Mark Fox his walking papers on Saturday following an SEC Tournament quarterfinal defeat against Kentucky.

Georgia earned only two NCAA tournament bids in Fox's tenure, losing in the first round in 2011 and 2015. Fox had a career record of 163-133 at Georgia.

As for Matta, the 50-year-old stepped away from coaching last June due to chronic back problems, amassing a career record of 439-154 while serving as head coach for Butler, Xavier, and most recently the Buckeyes.

A decision on Fox's replacement is expected by Wednesday morning.
