Texas freshman Mo Bamba announced Tuesday he will turn professional instead of returning for his sophomore season.

"After an incredibly rewarding year at the University of Texas, I will not be returning (to the) school as I will be entering the NBA draft," the center said in a statement obtained by Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman.

Bamba, projected as a top-10 pick, averaged 12.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game. His offensive skill set is still considered raw, but he's an exceptional athlete for his size and an impact player on the defensive end of the floor.

The Longhorns were bounced from the NCAA tournament with a first-round loss to Nevada. Bamba said afterward he didn't have a timeline to make a decision on whether or not to leave school for the NBA.
