TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona assistant basketball coach Mark Phelps has been suspended for five days without pay and senior Keanu Pinder will not play in the third-ranked Wildcats' opener against Northern Arizona for violating NCAA rules.

The school did not specify Friday what rules Phelps and Pinder violated, but a university release said Phelps' suspension is unrelated to an ongoing investigation into recruiting practices. Phelps will miss two games, while Pinder will sit out Friday and return for Sunday's game against UMBC.

Arizona assistant coach Emanuel Richardson was arrested last month as part of a federal investigation alleging bribes and kickbacks from shoe companies to sway recruits. Richardson and assistants from three other schools were among eight people indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury in New York City.
