Auburn suspends Person without pay after corruption arrest
Auburn associate head coach Chuck Person has been suspended without pay after he was reportedly arrested and charged with six counts of federal corruption, the university announced Tuesday.
"This morning's news is shocking," Auburn president Steve Leath said in a statement, as transcribed by Tom Green of AL.com. "We are saddened, angry and disappointed. We have suspended Coach Person without pay effective immediately. We are committed to playing by the rules, and that's what we expect from our coaches. In the meantime, Auburn is working closely with law enforcement, and we will help them in their investigation in any way we can."
Person was among 10 arrested this week following an FBI investigation that began in 2015. The investigation revealed numerous instances where coaches were bribed by agents to influence student-athletes to sign with those agents upon turning pro.
Person has been a member of Bruce Pearl's staff since 2014 and was promoted to associate head coach in May 2015.
