The Ball State men's basketball team suffered a tragic loss, as the university announced in a brief letter to student-athletes that forward Zach Hollywood died Tuesday afternoon. He was 19 years old

"On behalf of Ball State University, it is with profound sadness that we learned today of the passing of Zachary “Zach” Hollywood, a student from Bradley, Illinois," the statement read. "Zach has been a part of our community for the past year. During his time on campus, he was a member of the men’s basketball team and made many positive impressions throughout campus. This is a tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends and teammates."

The cause of death was not immediately released, but Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn told Ryan O'Gara of The Star Press that Hollywood was discovered at Varsity House Apartments just before 1 p.m. and that he died at the scene.

Cardinals head coach James Whitford is expected to release a statement.

Hollywood redshirted his first season as a member of the Cardinals and served as a member of the team's practice squad, according to his official team biography.
