North Carolina forward Luke Maye, who hit the unforgettable buzzer-beater over Kentucky in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament in March, walked away unharmed from a car crash Thursday that saw his vehicle flip several times and land upside down, according to Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer.

The accident, which Maye's father confirmed via text message, took place on the I-85.

"Yes, Luke had a car accident this afternoon coming home for his brother's middle school graduation," Mark Maye wrote Thursday night. "Was very fortunate. Thank the good Lord he is fine. Put a real scare in him - and us."

The car was totaled but Maye wasn't taken to hospital for any evaluation.

"He did run into an 18-wheeler and spun his car around, landing on a bank beside the road," his father wrote in another text message. "Damaged the car pretty bad, but he said he feels perfectly fine."

Maye averaged 5.5 points and 3.9 rebounds while coming off the bench for the Tar Heels as a sophomore last season.
