Wichita State star Markis McDuffie returning for junior season

Thomas Joseph-USA TODAY Sports

Wichita State will have its leading scorer for the move to the American Athletic Conference next season, as Markis McDuffie announced Tuesday he'll return to school for his junior season.

The Shockers star declared for the 2017 NBA Draft in April, but decided not to sign with an agent, leaving open the possibility of a return to school.

The 6-foot-8, 212-pounder scored 11.5 points per game for Wichita State last season, while adding 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals.

News of his return will be welcomed by a deep Shockers squad that's switching to the AAC from the weaker Missouri Valley Conference. With McDuffie's decision, Gregg Marshall's outfit now returns all of its top-five scorers from last year's roster.
