Back before he was a color commentator, Jay Bilas was a highly sought-after basketball recruit out of California in 1982. He eventually signed on to play for Mike Krzyzewski and Duke, reaching the Final Four and national championship game as a senior in 1986.
With Oregon making their first Final Four since 1939, Bilas shared his recruitment letter from then-Ducks assistant coach Jim O'Brien when the former was a senior in high school.
As for the sanctions the NCAA placed on Oregon mentioned at the bottom of the letter, the Ducks were found to have used phony school credits and a "paid talent scout."
The basketball team lost one scholarship for the 1982-83 academic year, but was not placed on probation.
However, the same could not be said for the football team, which was placed on two-year probation and banned from a bowl game in 1982 - as well as any NCAA-controlled televised games - while being docked seven scholarships over two years.
