Rutgers' Johnson decides to transfer from program
A day after Rutgers' leading scorer Corey Sanders declared for the NBA draft despite not signing with an agent, the Scarlet Knights were dealt a second blow with the impending departure of their second-leading scorer.
Rutgers guard Nigel Johnson announced Friday via Instagram that he has decided to graduate and transfer upon receiving his release from the school.
"After much thought and consulting with my family, I've decided to graduate and transfer," Johnson wrote. "I am grateful for and appreciate the experiences I've had at Rutgers University. I will forever cherish the memories I shared with my teammates and coaches and all that we accomplished this season."
Johnson played the first two years of his college career at Kansas State before transferring and sitting out last season to accomodate NCAA regulations. In his lone season at Rutgers, Johnson averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds on 38 percent shooting over 26.2 minutes.
