Providence head coach Ed Cooley underwent back surgery Monday for a herniated disc, he told Matt Norlander of CBS Sports.
Coooley said he was dealing with back pain for much of the year. He expects rehab to take about two months, which means he should be good to go by the time the Friar open the new season.
Cooley, 46, led Providence to a 24-11 record and the NCAA tournament's Round of 32 last year.
