Report: Mark Emmert still owes nearly $50K to Washington

NCAA president Mark Emmert reportedly still owes nearly $50,000 to Washington after he pledged $100,000 to the university 10 years ago.

After the school made him one of the highest-paid presidents of any public university in the country with a salary around $900,000, Emmert agreed in 2006 to put $100,000 toward a scholarship fund for the school.

Emmert was scheduled to make five annual payments of $20,000 from 2008-12, according to records obtained by USA TODAY Sports' Brent Schrotenboer. However, Emmert stopped making payments after the second year, and still owes $49,000, according to a Washington booster.

"The president of the university is the lead fundraiser," said booster Jay Glazer, who is not to be confused with the FOX Sports NFL analyst of the same name. "We’re all expected to pay (our pledges). … Your integrity is on the line. You don’t make up phony stuff."

In a statement, Emmert addressed the accusation, but did little to clarify the situation.

"Personal philanthropy is a private matter for individuals and their families," he said. "My family and I care greatly for the University of Washington and will continue to support it throughout our lives."

Emmert, a Washington alum, became president of the NCAA in April 2010.
