Report: Raptors waive former No.1 pick Anthony Bennett, sign Jason Thompson
The Toronto Raptors are waiving power forward Anthony Bennett to create room to sign power forward Jason Thompson, The Vertical's Shams Charania reports, citing league sources.
Thompson was recently waived by the Golden State Warriors after the team signed Anderson Varejao for the remainder of the season.
A solid defender, Thompson will help to spread the floor for the Raptors on offense, shooting a respectable 39.7 percent from beyond 16 feet in his career. Thompson saw little action as a Warrior, but has averaged nine points and 6.7 rebounds over eight NBA seasons.
Bennett was a late addition to Toronto's roster back in the fall, and failed to make an impact for both the Raptors and their D-League affiliate, Raptors 905.
The 22-year-old averaged just 1.5 points and 1.2 rebounds for the Raptors this season, shooting a ghastly 30.8 percent from the field. Bennett didn't fare much better with the 905, averaging 9.2 points on just 33.9 percent shooting.
