Report: Sixers release Tony Wroten
The reported trade for Ish Smith was all she wrote for Tony Wroten in Philadelphia - on Christmas Eve, no less.
Wroten, the 25th pick of the 2012 draft, was released by the 76ers to make room for Smith, a source told Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports.
A member of the 76ers since 2013, Wroten made eight appearances for the team this season after tearing his ACL a year ago.
Wroten's averaged 8.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 18 minutes per game, good for a woeful PER of 2.5 - an especially sobering performance since he looked decent in limited action before his injury.
Wroten averaged 16.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 5.2 assists for a respectable PER of 14.9 in 30 appearances in 2014-15.
The 22-year-old has always been something of a looter in the riot, racking up counting stats for a league-worst Sixers team. He's been far from efficient, but has proven to be a capable slashing combo guard with a nose for the rim.
