Cavs waive Nick Minnerath

Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE

The Cleveland Cavaliers needed to shed a player now that Tristan Thompson's holdout is over. That player is small forward Nick Minnerath, who was waived soon after Thompson officially signed his five-year, $82-million deal with the Cavaliers.

Minnerath was signed in mid-September as an additional camp body and appeared in three preseason games for Cleveland, averaging 2.7 points and 1.3 rebounds in 9.8 minutes, while shooting 50 percent from the floor.

Don't feel too bad for Minnerath - he quickly found (and retweeted) something to lift his spirits.

The 27-year-old could be headed to Canton from here as a D-League affiliate player, should the Cavs be interested in keeping him within the organization and Minnerath having interest in forgoing overseas options. Minnerath spent last season in the French league, where he averaged 13.7 points and 4.2 rebounds, while canning 36 percent of his long-range attempts.
