Magic waive Greg Stiemsma, Melvin Ejim

The Orlando Magic waived veteran center Greg Stiemsma on Thursday, the team announced. They also waived Canadian forward Melvin Ejim.

The 29-year-old Stiemsma latched on with the Magic on a training camp deal, and was always a long-shot to make the roster on a young, up-and-coming team. It also didn't help that Stiemsma came down with a minor Achilles injury, limiting him to two preseason appearances.

Stiemsma served as the 15th man with the Toronto Raptors last season. He boasts career averages of 2.7 blocks per 36 minutes across four seasons in the NBA.

Ejim, meanwhile, impressed in summer league and in international play for Canada, enough to warrant a training camp look. He averaged eight minutes over four preseason games, scoring 3.5 points and grabbing 2.3 rebounds. The 24-year-old opted to play in Italy after failing to catch on with an NBA team last year, but Orlando's D-League affiliate in Erie could present an option this time around.

Waiving Stiemsma and Ejim brings the Magic's roster down to the maximum allowable of 15 as they head into opening night on Oct. 28. The decision also means that two other players on non-guaranteed contracts - Devyn Marble and Nnanna Egwu - have made the cut.
