Kings' Collison on board with Rondo signing

As players often do, Darren Collison was singing a positive tune at media day on Monday.

The Sacramento Kings point guard appeared disgruntled on social media during the offseason, seemingly displeased the team signed fellow point guard Rajon Rondo. With everyone together for the beginning of camp, Collison was far more agreeable about his new running mate's presence.

"I think it's going to make everybody better," Collison said.

Rondo ostensibly bumps Collison to his more familiar backup role, where he's thrived as one of the league's top reserve guards. General manager Vlade Divac believes Rondo and Collison can play together, with the latter manning the two-spot despite standing 6-foot.

Collison has never seen extended run off the ball, but his 36.6 percent career mark from long range should help on the offensive end. The lengthy Rondo may then be able to cross-match on defense, taking the larger opposing guard for stretches.

Perhaps more important for Collison is that he's completely healed from a core muscle injury, one that ended his season in early March. Collison revealed Monday the injury dates back to his time with the Indiana Pacers (2010-2012), and that doctors said he should've had surgery to repair the injury long ago.

In 45 games with the Kings last season, Collison averaged career highs of 16.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 steals while chipping in 5.6 assists, tops on the team.
