The Orlando Magic have come to terms with unrestricted free agent center Jason Smith on a one-year, $4.5-million contract, according to USA Today's Sam Amick.
Smith departs the New York Knicks after one season in which he played all 82 games, starting a career-high 31. He averaged eight points and four rebounds in just under 22 minutes per contest.
The 29-year-old 7-footer is a serviceable reserve big man who should see time behind Nikola Vucevic in Orlando. The move comes days after a sign-and-trade that sent power forward Kyle O'Quinn from the Magic to New York.
The Knicks reportedly wanted to keep Smith, but could only offer him in the vicinity of $2.8 million, significantly less than he'll get in Florida.
