Robin Lopez will be a hot commodity on the open market for teams looking to sign a stout, defensive big who can protect the rim.

The New York Knicks, New Orleans Pelicans, and Milwaukee Bucks will all be gunning to sign the 27-year-old Portland Trail Blazers center when he officially becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1, Shams Charania of RealGM reports.

Portland will also make a push to re-sign Lopez, as the team wants him and power forward LaMarcus Aldridge to both return next season and hold down the frontcourt once again.

That will be easier said than done with Aldridge, though, as the four-time NBA All-Star has a long list of suitors ready to win him over and steer him away from Rip City.

The Pelicans would be a compelling destination for Lopez, as Alvin Gentry coached the 7-footer during his first four seasons in the NBA as a member of the Phoenix Suns.

Lopez played 59 games for the Trail Blazers this past season, averaging 9.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 27.8 minutes of action. He missed six weeks due to injury from Dec. 17 to Jan. 31 after fracturing his right hand in a game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Portland made a draft day trade to acquire Mason Plumlee from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for backup point guard Steve Blake and rookie Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. Noah Vonleh is also on board after coming over in a trade that sent Nicolas Batum to the Charlotte Hornets.

It appears as if the team is under the impression that Lopez and Aldridge are likely to head elsewhere, so they're battening down the hatches by bringing in potential replacements for the duo should that ultimately be the case.
