Warriors set NBA record for 3-pointers in a postseason
Don't let a cold-shooting NBA Finals so far confuse things: The Golden State Warriors remain one of the most deadly outside-shooting teams ever.
Now they're the best 3-point shooting team in NBA playoff history.
Just 2:24 into Game 4 on Thursday, Steph Curry nailed a triple, the 204th of the postseason for Golden State, a new NBA record. Last year's San Antonio Spurs team hit 203, passing the 2008-09 Orlando Magic for the record at the time.
Season | Team | 3FG | 3FG% |
---|---|---|---|
2015 | Warriors | 215 | 37.0% |
2014 | Spurs | 203 | 40.9% |
2009 | Magic | 201 | 36.0% |
1995 | Rockets | 189 | 39.1% |
2014 | Heat | 186 | 39.6% |
The Warriors shot a league-best 39.8 percent from long-range during the regular season but managed just a 31.3-percent mark through three games against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a primary reason they found themselves in a 2-1 hole.
That corrected some during Game 4, with the Warriors going 12-of-30 from outside. That pushes their playoff total to 215 threes and pushes their percentage back to 37, with at least two more games to ensure their record stands as untouchable moving forward.
Curry, the league's MVP and the best shooter on the planet, has been one of the main culprits with the team's poor shooting early in the series. He entered Thursday's game 11-of-34 from outside but shot 4-of-7 in Game 4, extending his NBA record for individual triples in a postseason to 88.
