Clippers' Griffin on costly Game 2 turnovers: 'That game was on me'

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

For all intents and purposes, Blake Griffin's performance was one of the main reasons the Los Angeles Clippers had a chance to take a 2-0 series lead late in Wednesday's Game 2 against the San Antonio Spurs.

But with the Clippers up 94-92 and 11 seconds remaining, Griffin turned the ball over trying to get to the basket. Moments later, Patty Mills was converting two game-tying free throws after being fouled by Chris Paul, and the game was headed to overtime.

Another Griffin turnover - his fifth of the night - with 1:10 remaining in OT and the Clippers down four, added to the All-Star big man's woes.

In the grand scheme of things, those two individual possessions were no more important than the plethora of successful possessions used by Griffin on the night, as he poured in 29 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in the loss.

But players (and most social media observers) aren't wired to think like that, so in his first chance to address the media following defeat, Griffin took the blame.

"That game was pretty much 100 percent on me ... I turned it over," Griffin said. "The game's on me."

The Clippers will have a chance to redeem themselves when the series shifts to San Antonio for Friday's Game 3.
