Dwight Howard will not face any child abuse charges in Atlanta stemming from an alleged incident that occurred last summer, according to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen.

"We have investigated this case and are not moving forward with charges," Atlanta Police spokesman Sgt. Gregory Lyon told Feigen in an email.

Cobb County Police had reopened an investigation revolving around Howard's then-6-year-old son Braylon allegedly showing evidence of being whipped with a belt. Atlanta Police later took over the investigation after deeming that the alleged incident occurred in Fulton County.

"We are gratified that the Atlanta Police Department, after fully examining the frivolous allegations against Dwight Howard, has closed the case and decided not to proceed with charges," Howard's attorney, David Oscar Markus, said in a statement.

"Dwight Howard will continue to act in the best interest of his children and do whatever is necessary to protect their welfare," Markus added.

Howard returned to the court for the Houston Rockets three weeks ago after a two-month absence following a bone marrow aspirate injection in his troublesome right knee.
