Mavs' Rondo will play Wednesday despite knee injury

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Rajon Rondo and the Dallas Mavericks got a scare when the starting point guard suffered a hyperextended knee in Saturday's loss to the Golden State Warriors, but the team's scheduled three days off have seemed to have done Rondo well.

Rondo will be in the lineup when the Mavericks take on the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday in their first game since Saturday.

Of course, whether that's actually good news for Dallas is another matter.

Rondo has averaged 9.1 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 42 games with the Mavericks since being acquired from the Boston Celtics in December, posting an ugly shooting split of 43-33-38 in just under 29 minutes per game.

In addition, the Mavs, who were scoring at record rates before the trade, have been outscored by over seven points per 100 possessions with Rondo on the court.
