Rodney Hood briefly leaves game Saturday with ankle injury

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

The Utah Jazz are going to see how Trey Burke and Dante Exum play together, whether they like it or not.

With starting shooting guard Alec Burks already sidelined, the Jazz lost fill-in Rodney Hood to an apparent ankle injury in the second quarter of Saturday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Hood had played 10 scoreless minutes to that point.

Luckily for Utah, Hood had his ankle re-taped in the locker room and later returned.

If he's limited the rest of the way, the Jazz would almost surely see how their rookie and sophomore guards play together. That's something they've only tried out for 56 minutes entering play Saturday, to mildly encouraging results. The team could also lean on Joe Ingles and Patrick Christopher a little more, though the Exum-Burke pairing is by far the most interesting potential fallout.

In 19 games, Hood had been averaging 5.2 points in 17 minutes, shooting just 32.7 percent from the floor. The No. 23 pick in this June's draft, Hood had put together a handful of decent games earlier in the month before once again going cold from long range in his past two outings.
