Irving drops season-high 37 as Cavaliers top Knicks
The last time an athlete wearing the No. 2 used New York City as his stage, it was Derek Jeter.
But the Cleveland Cavaliers' own No. 2 - Kyrie Irving - put on his own Broadway show Thursday night, leading lead the Cavs to a 90-87 victory over the New York Knicks. His performance included a dagger bucket with 10 seconds left:
Irving scored a season-high 37 points on an incredible 18 shots, picking up the slack on a night when LeBron James and Kevin Love combined for only 11-of-28 shooting and 28 points.
So much for the LeBron vs. Melo storyline. After scoring 25 in the Knicks' October defeat of the Cavs in Cleveland, Carmelo Anthony went cold for New York Thursday, finishing with nine points on 4-of-19 shooting, including missing a last-gasp three attempt.
The Knicks got good performances from a seemingly revitalized Amar'e Stoudemire and Tim Hardaway Jr., who scored 22 points in 20 minutes off the bench.
