Lakers' 1-8 start worst in franchise history

The Los Angeles Lakers are the worst team in the Western Conference.

They're also off to their worst start in franchise history at 1-8 after losing 93-80 to the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night. The score sounds much closer than it really was.

San Antonio pumped the helpless Lakers, leading by as many as 26 at one point. It was another ugly night by Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant included. Bryant converted 1-of-14 attempts from the field, missing all five of his shots from long range.

Bryant's health likely had something to do with his performance. He insisted on playing through what the Lakers think is a viral infection, according to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.

The 93 points meanwhile were actually the fewest Los Angeles has held an opponent to this season, but that hasn't stopped the team from getting off to a historically bad start on the defensive end.

The Lakers weren't much better on the offensive end, either. Their 80 points marked a season low, while this failed post up may have been the low point of the season.
