Paul Millsap on joining Knicks in free agency: 'Anywhere is an option'

The New York Knicks were subjected to two excellent performances from Paul Millsap during their home-and-home against the Atlanta Hawks.

On Saturday night, the All-Star power forward posted a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds as the Hawks emerged with a 103-96 win at Philips Arena. Then, on Monday, Millsap went off for 19 points in a 91-85 win for the Hawks, while going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and registering four rebounds and three steals.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Millsap was inevitably asked ahead of the home-and-home about whether he'd consider joining the Knicks, and he provided the safe answer you'd expect from a player in his situation.

"Anywhere could be an option," Millsap told the New York Post. "But my loyalty right now is in Atlanta. Free agency is free agency. When it happens, I'll weigh my options and see where I'm at. But I'm happy in Atlanta right now."

While there's no reason yet to believe that the Knicks will pursue Millsap in free agency, a move to Manhattan wouldn't be all that surprising given the circumstances.

Knicks coach Derek Fisher played alongside Millsap in 2006-07 and the franchise will have the cap space available to land his services. Furthermore, the Knicks could use an out-and-out power forward as their starting lineups this season have recently involved playing two centers in Samuel Dalembert and Jason Smith, with ticking timebomb Amar'e Stoudemire coming off the bench.

Through six games this season, Millsap is averaging 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, three assists and two steals.
