Energy player is a term befitting a handful of NBA players who bring intensity and effort in smaller roles. Wrestling for rebounds, getting dirty in the paint, hitting the hardwood for a loose ball, these are the things that define energy guys.

There may be no player who's made a career off of those traits, and that reputation, as thoroughly as Miami Heat center Chris "Birdman" Andersen.

As a result, Birdman now finds himself the face of an energy drink, with Hard Rock Energy revealing him as their spokesman recently. As the brand's executive director, David Drow, explained:

In basketball, Chris is known as an energy player. We’re an image and lifestyle brand. Part of that is about being fun, a little crazy and maybe a little off-center. We make things rock harder.
...
He is recognized right away and immediately brings interest

WSVN caught up with Andersen on set for a new commercial, and Andersen explained his fit with the brand:

In the video, Birdman also outlines his plans to be more versatile this season. That includes playing "point-center," bringing the ball up the floor, shooting from deep, and coaching. Hey, he'll have the energy to do all those things now.
