Rick Carlisle jokes that Chandler Parsons may not have bulked up on purpose
Chandler Parsons is said to have arrived in Dallas for his first Mavericks training camp sporting a little extra bulk, something he's hoping will allow him to sub in as a backup power forward as needed.
It's something Parsons did at times with the Houston Rockets, as his 6-foot-9 frame allows him to battle down low with naturally bigger bodies. While he's yet to reveal exactly how much weight he's added, bulking up beyond his listed 200 pounds will allow him to play the four more regularly and with fewer durability concerns.
If you ask head coach Rick Carlisle, though, Parsons's weight gain may not be the stuff of increased muscle mass, but rather the result of an enjoyable offseason:
Rick Carlisle not-so-subtly prods Chandler Parsons: "One man’s bulking up is another man’s not quite in shape yet."

Carlisle is kidding, of course. Even if he weren't, Parsons has a month to get himself in peak shape. And hey, maybe these kind of quips are exactly what will push Parsons and keep him grounded.
