The decision each NBA lottery team makes ahead of the May 20 draft lottery is a tough one: who do you send to represent the team?
Some teams go with executives, legends, current players or even bow-tie wearing sons of the owner. Sometimes, there is a reason. Other times, there's not, or if there is, it's very cruel, like when Bryan Colangelo represented the Toronto Raptors just weeks before he was replaced.
The Detroit Pistons have a pretty simple explanation this year. They're sending Kyle Singler because, according to him, "I'm a fairly lucky guy."
He wouldn't give anything away as to how he gets so lucky - "I don't want to tell what my lucky charm is but I've had lucky moments," - but also wouldn't guarantee that the Pistons jump from No. 8 to No. 1.
The Pistons need a little bit of luck if they want to keep the pick, however. While they have a 2.8 percent chance of grabbing the top pick and a 10 percent shot at a top-five selection, there's also a 17.6 percent chance they pick outside of the top-eight, which would mean their pick is conveyed to Charlotte.
So Singler doesn't even really need to be lucky, he just needs to not be unlucky.
