Report: Suns open to trading 2014 draft picks
The Phoenix Suns are willing to trade one or more 2014 draft picks in exchange for a star player who could make an immediate impact, according to Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com.
Per Howard-Cooper, the Suns are looking to capitalize on the probability of having at least two choices—and as many as four—in the June draft along with an ample amount of cap space.
The move would allow the Suns, who are sitting at 13-9, to accelerate the rebuilding process, particularly given the uncertainty of the 2014 draft. They also have two rookies, Alex Len and Archie Goodwin, on their current roster who need time to develop.
"I think one of the things that's important for people to realize is that we may not draft four players even if we have four picks," general manager Ryan McDonough told NBA.com. "Our preference would probably be to maybe package a few of them. We're obviously all looking for stars and we feel like we can put together a package as good, if not better, than any other team in the league if and when a star becomes available. That's kind of generally what we've wanted to do, not only with our draft-pick situation but also with the cap space that we've acquired.”
