Report: Nets target Kings' Fernandez for coaching vacancy
Sacramento Kings assistant coach Jordi Fernandez has emerged as the favorite to become the next coach of the Brooklyn Nets, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Fernandez will continue to serve with the Kings for the rest of this season. Sacramento will play the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday in the play-in tournament.
The Nets finished 32-50 this past campaign, finishing 11th in the Eastern Conference. Brooklyn parted ways with Jacque Vaughn after he went 21-33, elevating assistant Kevin Ollie to finish the season as the interim coach.
Fernandez would be the Nets' fifth head coach since 2020 if he's hired. He's also spent time on Michael Malone's bench with the Denver Nuggets.
The 41-year-old serves as the Canadian men's senior national team coach as well. He helped lead the squad to a bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, the country's first medal at the international tournament.
Fernandez interviewed for head coaching vacancies with the Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, and Milwaukee Bucks last offseason.
