Report: 2-time All-Star Isaiah Thomas joining Jazz's G League affiliate
Former All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas is joining the Utah Jazz's G League affiliate Salt Lake City Stars, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Thomas is hoping to join an NBA squad for the season's stretch run, Charania notes.
Thomas has been out of the league since the 2021-22 campaign when he played 22 games split between the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets.
The final draft pick in 2011, Thomas was effective in the NBA right off the bat. He averaged at least 11 points and four assists per game in each of his first seven seasons.
In 2016-17, Thomas turned into a full-fledged superstar for the Boston Celtics. He averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 assists per game for an Eastern Conference finalist while finishing fifth in MVP voting and making the All-NBA second team.
However, his career was derailed the next season once he was dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving. Thomas didn't play more than 40 games in a season over the next five campaigns due to injuries before finding himself out of the league.
Should the Jazz call up Thomas, he'd be suiting up for the West's No. 11 seed. Utah sits five games back of the Golden State Warriors for the final Play-In Tournament spot.
