Warriors waive Gay, McGruder
The Golden State Warriors waived forward Rudy Gay and guard Rodney McGruder on Friday, the team announced.
The pair of moves trims the Warriors' roster to 16 players at the end of preseason with 13 standard deals. The team plans to open the regular season Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns with 13 players, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Gay, 37, joined the Warriors late last month to compete for a roster spot. He's averaged 15.8 points over 1,120 games but most recently posted 5.2 with the Utah Jazz in 56 contests last year. The 17-year veteran played 15 minutes over two preseason games this year.
McGruder, 32, has played seven seasons and is coming off a three-year stint with the Detroit Pistons. He's averaged 5.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists over 317 career games.
