Pistons give Isaiah Stewart 4-year, $64M extension
The Detroit Pistons handed forward Isaiah Stewart a four-year, $64-million rookie contract extension, his agent told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday.
Stewart is the first player selected in the 2020 draft to sign a non-maximum rookie extension after Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Haliburton, and Desmond Bane signed for the top amount earlier in the offseason. Players from that class became eligible for new deals on June 30.
The 22-year-old was a staple in the Pistons' lineup from the jump after being selected with the No. 16 pick following a standout freshman season at Washington. He was the No. 3 prospect in the 2019 high school class, according to ESPN.
Stewart has increased his scoring in each of his three seasons in Detroit, topping out at 11.3 points per game last year, to go along with 8.1 rebounds. He also more than tripled his 3-point attempt average from his first two campaigns but hit a career-worst 44.2% of his field goals.
The 6-foot-8 Stewart will slot into a Pistons frontcourt that features rising sophomore Jalen Duren, and former No. 2 picks James Wiseman and Marvin Bagley III.
