Pacers' Turner out at least 2 weeks with stress reaction in foot
He's expected to remain out beyond the Feb. 10 trade deadline, sources tell ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski - complicating one of 2021-22's larger potential in-season transactions.
Turner is averaging 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds and currently leads the NBA with 2.8 rejections per game. The 25-year-old has averaged 2.3 rejections per game for his career and has twice previously led the league in shots blocked per night. With Turner as the primary defender, opposing players have shot 55.9% within 6 feet of the rim, according to NBA Advanced Stats.
Turner is in the third year of a four-year, $80-million contract. He's owed $18 million this year and in 2022-23, and he will receive a $2-million bonus for each season he makes either an All-NBA or All-Defensive team.
Despite bringing title-winning head coach Rick Carlisle back to the franchise, the Pacers' season has gone pear-shaped. At 15-29 (.341), Indiana is on pace for its worst winning percentage since the 1988-89 season. The team is 7 1/2 games behind the 10th-seeded Boston Celtics - the current cutoff for the final play-in berth.
